Tranent: School celebrates ‘incredible’ new gym hall
The new PE facilities were opened last week and are part of a major refurbishment operation which began in March 2021.
Additional classrooms and learning spaces for art, business studies, IT and modern languages were completed in August last year.
The latest development sees the completion of a new sports hall and changing facilities for pupils, as well as a PE staff base.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We’re really pleased to see the completion of extension works at Ross High School.
“The classroom extension was handed over in summer and now, with the opening of the sports facilities, the final two extension projects are complete with the internal refurbishment currently ongoing.
“Running a phased construction project of this scale while a school is operating is a complex undertaking and we are grateful to the teams involved for their works throughout and to the school community for their support.
“It’s great to see the new spaces in use and the young people having the benefits of high-quality sports facilities to support the health and well-being curriculum.”
Paul Reynolds, headteacher at Ross High, said: “I am delighted to say that our new PE facilities, as part of the wider refurbishment plan, are now open.
“The new facilities boast a beautiful two-court gym hall.
“Teachers and pupils already are commenting how much they love the new hall and how incredible the acoustics are.
“I’d like to thank all those involved in helping provide such excellent resources for our pupils and staff.
“This is a massive step in the journey to fully complete all refurbishment and extension works.
“We now set our sights on the remaining areas, which include a suite of drama rooms, nurture facilities and graphic design and technology classrooms.”
