Tranent man caught speeding on A1
A TRANENT man has escaped a driving ban after he pleaded guilty to a much reduced road charge.
Paul McLean, of Bankpark Brae, was facing a charge of dangerous driving by driving at excessive speeds when he appeared for trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
But when the case called, Sheriff Donald Corke was told that the Crown was accepting a guilty plea to an offence of driving his vehicle without due care and attention at the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass on July 29, 2021.
The court heard that McLean, 32, was arrested after he was caught travelling at grossly excessive speeds above the 70mph speed limit in the face of obvious and potential dangers between the Millerhill Junction and Sheriffhall Roundabout.
Sheriff Corke fined him a total of £360 and agreed to spare him a road ban, instead placing seven penalty points on his licence.
