Tranent: Bowling club’s £80k for CHAS

Kind-hearted members of East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club have raised more than £80,000 for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) since 1994.

The club’s latest donation of £700, at the end of last month, pushed the total over the £80,000 mark.

The club has hosted many fundraising events for the charity, including its annual CHAS Day.

A huge portion of the funds has also been raised at the club’s weekly bingo nights, when member Marion Hoggan runs raffles and football cards.

Lynne Blyth, club secretary, said: “We had no idea at the time of donating the £700 that it took us over the £80,000 mark.

“We were absolutely delighted to mark the milestone.

“The club has been collecting for CHAS for over 25 years now, so to reach this point is some achievement.

“We raised £700 over Christmas and we know times are tough right now so I want to say a big thanks to our members for their kindness in donating.”

CHAS community fundraiser Sarah Dannfald was invited to the club to celebrate the milestone, and she presented Lynne and Marion with flowers to show the charity’s appreciation.

Sarah said: “We are so grateful to all the members of East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club for choosing to support CHAS for almost 30 years, raising such an incredible total to date.

“Their commitment is so appreciated and I love my yearly visits to provide an update on what CHAS has achieved.

“Their donations directly help the children and families we support in East Lothian and right across Scotland.

“There are currently over 16,700 children living with a life-shortening condition in Scotland.

“That number is rising and it is our aim to reach every family who needs us.”
