Office closure notice – Christmas 2022/ New Year 2023


All local area offices will close at 4pm on Friday 23 December (payments desks will close at 3:30pm) and resume normal opening hours from Wednesday 4 January. Customer Services within Brunton Hall, Musselburgh will be open 10am to 4pm from Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December.

Libraries

All libraries that close on Saturdays will close at 5pm on Friday 23 December. Those that open on Saturdays will close at 1pm on Saturday 24 December.

All libraries will resume normal opening hours from Wednesday 4 January. Apart from Wallyford which will re-open on Thursday 5 January.

Port Seton Library and Gullane Library will be closed on Saturday 24 December.

Museums

Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery and Prestongrange Museum are currently closed for the winter.

John Muir’s Birthplace and the Museum at the John Gray Centre will close at 1pm on Saturday, 24 December and resume normal opening hours from Wednesday 4 January

Registration of births, deaths and marriages

Haddington and Musselburgh offices closed.

Appointments necessary to carry out registrations

  • Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December: all business closed
  • Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December: 9am to 1pm and  2pm to 5pm (office closed, business conducted from home)
  • Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 January 2023: all business closed
  • Wednesday 4 January 2023 office open – appointment necessary

Scottish Welfare Fund

The Scottish Welfare Fund team telephone lines will close at 2pm on Friday 23 December and reopen on Wednesday 4 January at 9am. However, staff will be available from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December to deal with any crisis grant applications made during the office closure. Applications can be made online 24/7 at www.eastlothian.gov.uk/scottishwelfarefund and any claims received will be dealt with during these hours.

Road services/transportation

Please contact 01875 612818 for all road and transportation emergencies.

Bins and recycling

Monday 26 December food waste, recycling and non recyclable waste collections will take place on Saturday 24 December. Monday 2 January collections will take place on Saturday 31 December.

All other collections will take place as normal on your regular collection days. There will be no garden waste collections between 24 December and 8 January inclusive.
