North Berwick High School’s greenhouse ‘destroyed’ by fire

A fire on Saturday evening at North Berwick High School “destroyed” a greenhouse within the school grounds.

The school confirmed to the Courier that its facilities team had received reports of the greenhouse being “set alight” at about 8.25pm.

Police and fire services attended but the greenhouse was unable to be saved from the blaze.

Officials are now exploring CCTV footage to uncover the cause of the fire.

A East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “North Berwick High School facilities team received reports at 8.25pm on Saturday night that a greenhouse in the school grounds had been set alight.

“Police and Fire Service attended however the greenhouse was fully destroyed.

“It is very fortunate that no one was harmed.

“CCTV from the area is being reviewed and we would encourage anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.54pm on Saturday 21 January to reports of a greenhouse well alight at a school on Grange Road, North Berwick.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene and firefighters worked to make the area safe.

“There were no casualties and crews left shortly after extinguishing the fire.”
